Celebration of Harold’s Life will be held at 1:00pm on Friday July 14, 2017 at Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong, IL. Burial will be in the Oblong Cemetery.

Harold Ray Irvin, 89, of Oblong, IL passed away on Monday July 10, 2017 at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, IL.
Harold was born in Lawrence County, IL (Parker Pool Area) on February 5, 1928 to John A. and Hazel (McClure) Irvin. On July 19, 1964 he married Phyllis (Antonio) Irvin.
Harold served in the Army Air Force during WWII stationed in the Manila Islands. He was baptized June 22, 1941 at the Flat Rock Baptist Church. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Robinson and the Robinson High School Class of 1945, where he was on the track and basketball teams. Harold was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Robinson, IL. Harold started with the Ohio Oil Company in 1945, in the Holmes Manly unit and retired from the lab at Marathon Oil Company in 1984 after 38 ½ years with the company. Harold had started painting when he was sixteen and painted part time until 2004. Harold had also owned and ran Thoroughbred Race Horses. In his earlier years Harold had owned a stock car, which was driven by Harold Allen. Harold had also been a part time flagger at the Crawford County Track and the Terre Haute Action Track. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan as well. Harold had always been involved in the local baseball and softball leagues; from the boys little league, the girls Lincoln Trail League up to the West Union women’s league as either a coach or assistant coach. Harold was a loving husband, dad and grandpa.
Harold is survived by his wife of 53 years Phyllis Irvin Oblong, IL; one son and daughter-in-law Larry and Luann Irvin, Robinson, IL; three daughters and sons-in-law Linda and Terry Hill, Newburgh, IN, Connie and Bryon Whiston, Robinson, IL, and Annita and Dan Jackson, Greenville, IL; six grandchildren Alan Hill, Chandler, IN, Lori and Quentin Wilkerson, Newburgh, IN, Shannon Irvin, Paxton, IL, Erica Smith, Robinson, IL, John and Courtney Whiston, West York, IL, and Katie Whiston, Robinson, IL along with 15 great grandchildren. Harold was also survived by one brother and sister-in-law Cecil and Norma Irvin, McKenny, TX; two sisters and brother-in-law Marjorie Raley, Plainfield, IN and Carolyn and Wallace Leggett, Robinson, IL; brother-in-law Norvil Coulter and three sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Peggy Hill, Betty Jo and David Newlin, Neva Antonio, along with several nieces, nephews, cousin and many friends.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Betty Rose (Pifer) Irvin; brothers and sisters-in-law Russell and Nina Irvin, Kenneth and Ruth Irvin and infant brother Max Eugene; brothers-in-law Robert Titsworth, Wayne Raley and Bill Antonio; sisters and brothers-in-law Delene and Vince Hurn and Marilyn and Glenn Tracy and Rhonda Goff.
